Emblème de la chine, le bambou s’est bien adapté dans nos régions. Pour former des bosquets ou des haies, sa culture peu exigeante autorise toutes les fantaisies. Dans la famille des graminées, seuls les bambous comprennent des espèces ligneuses. Sur le grand nombre d’espèces de bambou existantes, quelques unes poussent dans les zones tempérées. La taille du bambou varie de 0.30 m pour les espèces naines, à 25 m pour les plus grandes (voire beaucoup plus dans leur environnement naturel).
Utilisation des bambous dans les jardins
L’immense diversité des bambous ajoutée à leur facilité d’adaptation, permet de les utiliser dans tous les types de jardins; depuis le pot conservé en appartement jusqu’au grand parc où ils apportent leur ombre et leur fraîcheur. En passant, bien sûr, par les aménagements de balcons, terrasses, patios, vérandas, etc.
Parmi les nombreux avantages des bambous, citons:
La note exotique qu’ils apportent au jardin. La persistance de leur feuillage; le bambou permet « d’habiller » brillamment certains coins un peu tristes en hiver. L’utilisation en tant que fixe-sol pour les talus, les berges, etc. Leur rôle de brise-vent: le bambou comme le roseau « plie et ne rompt pas ». La très large gamme des espèces permet aux paysagistes en jouant sur les formes, les tailles, les couleurs de créer des effets très intéressants. L’utilisation des tiges coupées pour la réalisation de palissades, pergolas, tuteurs, etc.
